List of Diseases and Disorders Related to Cardiovascular System

Heart, the essential organ which pumps blood to each and every organs of the body. But sometimes it may not function properly due to many kind of diseases and disorders.

Here is the list of terms used for heart problems.

Related to Conduction

Arrythmia- Irregular heartbeat

Fibrillation- Irregular and disorganized heart rhythm

Flutter- Regular but very rapid heart rhythm

Bradycardia- Slow heart rate (below 60 beats per min)

Tachycardia- Rapid heart rate (over 100 beats per min)

Bundle Branch Block- Blockage of impulse travelling through bundle branch

Palpitation- Abnormality of heartbeat

Premature Ventricular Contraction- Abnormal heartbeat in ventricles

➤ Vascular

Aneurysm- An abnormal  blood-filled swelling of an artery or vein which results in weakening that particular area of blood vessel

Atherosclerosis- Hardening of Arteries

Coarctation of Aorta- Severe narrowing of the aorta

Coronary Artery Spasm- Constriction of muscles in the artery wall

Thrombus- A blood clot in the blood vessel

Deep vein Thrombosis- A blood clot in a deep vein

Embolus- A blood clot which moves with flow of blood

Embolism- Lodging of embolus which cause blockage in blood vessel

Restenosis- Narrowing of an artery which was previously opened by a angioplasty

Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis- Narrowing of left ventricle below the level of the aortic valve resulting in obstruction to blood flow out of the heart

Valvular

Aortic Insufficiency or Aortic Regurgitation- Leakage of aortic valve which cause backward flow of blood

Mitral Insufficiency- Blood leaks back in left ventricle through mitral valve

Mitral Stenosis- Narrowing of mitral valve

 Inflammation related

Constrictive Pericarditis- Inflammation of pericardium

Endocarditis- Inflammation of endocardium

Myocarditis- Inflammation of myocardium

Rheumatic Fever- Fever caused due to inflammation of heart valve

Hypoxia (lack of oxygen)

Cyanosis- Lack of oxygen rich blood supply to a particular part of the body

Infarction- Death of tissue due to lack of oxygen rich blood

Ischemia- Lack of oxygen rich blood supply to heart muscles

Silent Ischemia- Lack of oxygen rich blood supply to the heart that does not cause any symptoms

Transient Ischemic Attack- A mini-stroke, due to lack of oxygen rich blood flow to the brain for a short period of time

 Others

• Angina Pectoris- Pain in chest caused by temporarily inadequate blood supply to the heart

Atrial Myxoma- Tumor of the heart

Atrial Septal Defect- A hole in the wall which separate both upper chambers (atria)

Ventricular Septal Defect- A hole in the wall which separate both lower chambers (ventricle)

Cardiac Arrest- Sudden cessation of heart

Cardiomyopathy- A group of diseases related to heart muscles. It may cause heart muscle enlarge, thick or stiff

Congestive Heart Failure- Heart not able to pump blood

Hyperlipidemia- High level of fats like triglycerides and cholesterol

Ventricular Hypertrophy- Thickening of ventricles

Syncope- Fainting due to insufficient blood flow to the brain
